This time of year draws crowds to restaurants and retail spaces for end-of-year gatherings and holiday parties. Planning your company holiday party may seem like a daunting task, but with a little creativity and a few insider tips, you can host a special evening that all of your guests are sure to enjoy. Here are a few of my favorite ideas to help you plan a successful company holiday party.
Every year for the past 34 years, Abbot Kinney Festival celebrates Venice’s eclectic community and showcases all the character it has to offer. The longstanding summer tradition is back this year on Sunday, September 30th from 10am-6pm.
With the success of iconic Santa Monica restaurants like Huckleberry Bakery & Cafe, Cassia, and Milo + Olive, husband and wife restauranteurs Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan have become household names around Los Angeles. But why stop there? The opening of Tallula’s in May 2017, has proven to be yet another win for the popular duo and their Rustic Canyon Family of Restaurant group.
The Butcher’s Daughter may have been born and bred in New York City, but it sits right at home among the ocean breeze and thoughtfully designed corridors of Abbot Kinney. Its bright and distinguished interior is the work of owner and designer Rachel Tierney, and features a harmonic blend of industrial elements outfitted with rustic materials like wood, brick, and of course, plenty of plant life. It is after all, a plant-based restaurant. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the lively vegan and vegetarian menu takes it beyond just another Venice Beach health café, thanks to the creativity of Executive Chef Richard Rea, formerly a sous chef from Superba Restaurant Group, and Pastry Chef Ignacio Zorzoli.
Endless sunshine, beautiful beaches, that perpetual feeling like you’re on vacation… few restaurants capture the Los Angeles of peoples’ imaginations quite like Salt Air. Blocks from Venice beach on the iconic Abbot Kinney Blvd., the bistro-style restaurant has been charming locals since 2013 thanks to Dave & Patti Reiss (the duo behind Westside favorites like Sunny Spot, The Brig, and A-Frame), serving seasonal seafood-inspired dishes amidst a backdrop of white brick walls, marble tables, and an open kitchen.
Tucked in a refurbished 1937 Art Deco building, Esters Wine Shop & Bar strikes a delicate balance between classy and inviting for Santa Monica wine-loving crowd. The decor, a blend of Art Deco and Parisian flea market with racks of wine beautifully stacked from floor to ceiling, creates a relaxing ambiance in a bright space with ornate touches.
Avner Lavi may not be a household name, but he’s arguably one of LA’s carb cooking kings. A veteran of the local dining scene, he honed his skills at Italian hotspots like Sotto and Bestia before striking out on his own as chef and owner of Cento Pasta Bar, a critically acclaimed, roving pop-up that takes over local restaurants otherwise “dark” for lunch or dinner service.
